Grapefruit essential oil is extracted by cold expression of the peel, resulting in a pale yellow or golden yellow colored oil with an odor characteristically of the fruit, which is like that of an orange, but with a bitter edge to it. The oil glands in the grapefruit are located deeper in the peel than with other citrus fruits, which makes it more difficult to extract the oil.
