Climate Action

We are working toward a lower-carbon future by improving energy efficiency, investing in lower-carbon technologies, and strengthening the processes and culture that support emissions reduction. Our deliverables include a 20% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025, a 40% reduction by 2030, and net-zero direct emissions by 2050, alongside our Scope 3 emissions reduction intensity target.

  • Expanding the use of lower-carbon technologies, renewable energy, and alternative fuel solutions where practical
  • Embedding climate considerations into procurement, operations, and employee engagement

Resource Efficiency

We are embedding circularity and operational excellence across our value chain to reduce waste, use materials more efficiently, and improve water stewardship. Our deliverables include reducing reducing operationally generated hazardous waste intensity to 2030.We are doing this by:

  • Reducing hazardous waste and increasing reuse, recovery, and recycling across our operations
  • Expanding more sustainable packaging and circular solutions, including returnable options where appropriate

Protecting Soil, Air, and Water

We work to help prevent accidental releases and reduce environmental impacts across all stages of handling, storage, processing, and delivery. Our goal is to reduce significant chemical releases to below 50 incidences annually by 2030 and to reduce water waste intensity at all high-water risk sites.  Priorities include:

  • Strengthening water efficiency practices to help protect local water resources in higher-risk locations.Implementing engineering controls, operational standards, training, and shared accountability to reduce risk and promote the responsible handling of materials.
  • Investing in prevention, preparedness, and response to minimize product loss, strengthen resilience at our sites

Climate Action

In 2008 we began our sustainability journey. Since then we have been working to increase our fleet and site operations. Currently over 90% of our emissions come from just three sources: vehicle diesel, natural gas, and electricity use. Our strategy to reduce energy and emissions is organized into three primary categories:

 

  • Centering our attention on efficient technologies/equipment and renewable resources
  • Optimizing clean tools and creating efficiencies across operational practices
  • Increasing sustainability awareness and rewarding positive employee behavior

Resource Use

Univar Solutions is actively embedding more sustainable practices into each step of our supply chain. With the help of our customers, investors, suppliers, and employees we're:

  • Indentifying opportunities for beneficial resuse and recycling across waste streams

Release Prevention

We're committed to preventing accidental chemical releases during all handling stages—from receiving goods and onsite processing to global delivery. 

 

By actively sharing information with our customers and suppliers, we can encourage safer handling and bring awareness to product hazards, issue reporting, and containment practices. 

 

To futher prevent loss and protect our environment, we also broadly communicate mitigation protocol. Should there be an accidental release, we want to be sure that our employees and local communities can navigate next steps, are equipped to isolate the incident, and understand our green remediation tactics.
