Biological wastewater treatment plants are gaining an increasingly significant share of the wastewater treatment market. These systems are now widely used not only in municipal and communal facilities but also across various industrial sectors, where they are essential for treating complex effluents such as industrial wastewater and landfill leachate. Their primary function is to remove pollutants like suspended solids, oil, chemical oxygen demand (COD), and biological oxygen demand (BOD), making the treated water safe for discharge into natural bodies such as rivers, lakes, or even for reuse in some other cases.

To improve the effectiveness of biological processes, supplementary technologies are often integrated. One such advanced method is ultrafiltration (UF), which enables the efficient concentration and retention of biomass, significantly enhancing overall treatment performance. This method is particularly valuable where high effluent quality standards must be met or where process stability is critical.
Beyond municipal applications, biological treatment combined with membrane technologies like UF plays an important role in a wide variety of process water treatment scenarios—ranging from food & beverage industries to chemical manufacturing, pharma, pulp & paper. Each wastewater stream is unique, with its own specific composition and treatment requirements.

Membrane filtration solutions must therefore be adaptable. We at Univar Solutions address this complexity with a comprehensive portfolio of tubular ultrafiltration modules, tailored to meet the diverse demands of wastewater treatment across multiple industries. Our solutions are designed to offer long-term reliability, operational efficiency, and compliance with stringent discharge regulations.
